It’s Going To Be A Busy Year!

Portner Brewhouse has come a long way since it was an idea thought up one summer vacation by my sister and I in the North Carolina sun five years ago.  And truly in 2016, the centennial of the original company’s closing, Portner Brewhouse will birth its’ brick and mortar establishment.   My sister and I are incredibly excited to open later this year and are doing everything we can do in preparation and execution for a successful grand opening.

In sharpening our saws and picking up hammers, this month we filed for building permits to make the cement room we negotiated for last year, the future home of your shindigs and happy hours with friends.  Soon our general contractors will put their tools to use building our brewpub.

Since The Robert Portner Brewing Company is such an integral part of our business, between grabbing the next pint of pre-prohibition beer, patrons will also be able to see different artifacts around the brewpub from the predecessor company worked into the decor.  In addition, with such a large German influence, an indoor beer garden theme using pergolas, live green plants, and a faux brick wall will work towards creating a comfortable ambiance in the brewpub.

On the menu, Portner Brewhouse will feature Bites & Flights, a traditional flight tray with a flight of 3 bite culinary pairings. Take a look at an example of what is in store…

Beer…………………………………………………………..Bite
Vienna Cabinet Lager………….……………….Autumn Squash Soup
Hofbrau Pilsner……………………….…………………..Bratwurst Slider
Tivoli Cream Ale…………………………………….…..Reuben Turnover
Portner Porter…………………..…………….………….Black Forest Cake

During all this, we are busy setting up contracts with local wholesalers for grass-fed Virginia beef for juicy burgers, Pennsylvania apples for sweet dessert strudels, and local Alexandria roasted coffee.  Recipe testing is underway and it will be great to be able to share our kitchen culinary treats with brewpub patrons.

So come and unwind, we are excited to meet you. But before you head out, don’t forget tell us what you thought of which Craft Beer Test Kitchen beer you tried!

Prost!

  1. This is so exciting ladies! I ate at the new Smashburger yesterday and checked out your new digs. Love the way it looks out from the corner perspective, and gives us a hint at the redevelopment of that part of Alexandria.

The retail parking is a plus too.

    All the best!
